Fixed Bridge on Implants Benefits
Many individuals face the complication of having missing or unhealthy teeth. When this occurs, replacement is necessary. The most positive, productive, and permanent solution is the integration of an anchored fixed bridge with dental implants.
Prior to the availability of fixed dental implants, patients had no option when it came to a permanent solution.
But innovation and technology in periodontics has now made it possible to completely replace the jaw, place dental implants, and incorporate a fixed bridge so that individuals may, once again, enjoy all of the advantages of a full set of teeth.
Not only is this a sound choice when it comes to optimizing the oral health of a patient, but it is a highly-esthetic solution that leaves patients healthier and with a more beautiful smile.
The following outlines a few of the main benefits associated with a fixed bridge on dental implants:
- Patients may enjoy full functioning of their mouth – in terms of communication and eating – despite having lost their natural teeth.
- The fixed bridge with dental implants is a solid and a completely stable solution that has the capability of lasting a lifetime.
- The facial appearance of the patient is preserved and the periodontal structures that are placed in the mouth prevents the occurrence of bone loss.
The Treatment Procedure Explained
The treatment procedure associated with a fixed bridge on dental implants will depend heavily upon the health of the patient, as well as the unique complications faced by that patient.
Generally, a total of as few as 8 visits to as many as 10 visits will cover the procedure to completion.

Course of Treatment
Installing the Fixed Bridge– Step-By-Step
The following briefly explains the treatment outline:
1. Prior to the Initiation of the Procedure
The periodontist will work to determine the individual needs of the patient. The procedure will be customized and shared with the patient.
2. Installation of Implants
Next, the periodontist will engage in replacing the roots of the lost teeth in the mouth. This typically involves the installation of 4-6 implants in the mouth.
Immediately after installation, temporary teeth are then placed in the mouth. This will allow the patient to consume food, drink beverages, and communicate easily and effectively while waiting for the installation of the permanent bridge in the mouth.
3. Bridge Attachment
Once the permanent bridge arrives, it is then attached on top of the implants in the patient’s mouth. This is considered to be a complete jaw replacement.
As a result of the care and precision that is required for this step, it may take anywhere from 2 to 3 different visits to ensure complete attachment.
4. Healing
Once the jaw replacement is finished, the healing process will start. In just a short time, the patient will have beautiful, solid teeth that resemble natural teeth.
Not only does the patient find that the fixed bridge offers the security and stability of natural teeth, but, that the artificial teeth are bright, vibrant, and beautify their smile and overall appearance. As a result, the patient’s self-esteem quickly increases.
Fixed Bridge Alternatives
There are two alternatives to a fixed bridge. The first is a removable type of overdenture, which is directly anchored on implants in the mouth. The second is the traditional set of dentures.
When opting for alternatives, it is best to opt for the removable overdenture. The traditional denture choice results in many complications and disadvantages. See below for more information on each:
REMOVABLE
ANCHORED
OVERDENTURES
This is a specially-designed full denture structure that is directly connected through the means of an attachment that is either a ball or bar.
This attachment is situated on at least two implants, which are commonly placed in the front region of the jaw.
The implant structure aids in ensuring that the dentures remain stationary. In turn, this optimizes comfort and overall functionality.
While cheaper than a fixed bridge, patients often find that the fixed bridge option is more suitable to their needs and well worth the cost.
REMOVABLE
TRADITIONAL
DENTURES
The next alternative to a fixed bridge are traditional removable dentures.
This are simply placed on the top region of the gum in order to cover the areas where natural teeth no longer remain.
These are inexpensive and they are easy to place in the mouth; however, there are no long-term advantages associated with this option.
In fact, there are many disadvantages. These include eating discomfort, speech complications, and aesthetic-based issues.
