What Is Sinus Lift Surgery?
Sinus lift surgery is a type of procedure that is performed in order to make it easier for a practitioner to place dental implants within the mouth. This procedure is often also referred to as “sinus augmentation surgery”.

Do I Need Sinus Lift Surgery?
If you are a patient that is missing teeth and/or bone within the area near the sinuses, you may need a sinus lift. Additionally, if it is found that your sinuses are positioned too closely to the upper jaw and more space is required for the successful placement of dental implants, you will need to undergo the sinus augmentation procedure.
What Causes the Loss of Bone in the Jaws?
Many situations may cause the loss of bone within the jaws. It could be a direct result of a birth defect. In other instances, it could be due to cancer or another type of periodontal disease.
The loss of a tooth, unanchored dentures, trauma, misalignment issues, tumors, osteomyelitis, developmental deformities, sinus deficiencies, and other medical conditions may also result in the loss of bone within the jaws.
Is a Sinus Lift Required for Dental Implants?
Yes, if you do not have a sufficient amount of bone present to properly support the implant that is being placed, a sinus lift surgery will be required for dental implants.
Will a Sinus Life Cause Problems with My Sinuses?
No, a sinus lift surgery will not cause any changes or problems with your sinuses. Furthermore, you will not experience any issues with your breathing and you will not develop allergies as a result of the sinus augmentation surgery.
Is a Sinus Lift Surgery Painful?
There is no pain experienced during the sinus lift surgery. Immediately following the procedure, there may be some degree of discomfort. This discomfort may extend out for a few days during the immediate healing process.
